City Commission Approves 2017 Millage Rate

The Toccoa City Commission approves the 2017 millage rate at 6 mills during last night’s meeting.

City Manager Billy Morse said that tax bills will be mailed on September 8 and be due on November 8.

He also said the city has maintained the millage rate at 6 mills for the last several years and have budgeted accordingly.

Toccoa Mayor Jennette Jameison credits the ability to maintain the millage rate to city employees.

“To repeat what the city manager said, this is at least six years in a row that the city has maintained their millage rate of six mills,” said Jameison. “That would only be possible if we did not have the management and quality employees that we have. So much of the work that we do is done with city employees and that does help us maintain a specific amount of budget.”

The commission also heard matters from the public and Toccoa resident Sharon Tate complimented city employees.

“We had asked that someone do something about our road in our neighborhood and somebody was right on it and we appreciate that so much,” said Tate. “While we sat inside our air conditioned houses, our city employees are outside working and sweating. I’m thankful, so tell your men thank you for what they did.”

Jameison closed the meeting saying how proud she is of the city for their work.

The city commission will meet again on August 14.
