City of Toccoa to host Train Day Tomorrow

The City of Toccoa will host its 7th Annual Train Day tomorrow at 6:15 A.M. as they welcome the Amtrak Crescent Line.

Special Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby says that this event gives them a chance to spotlight the history of the railroad in Toccoa.

“Toccoa has had such a vast history inter-related with the railway system,” said Crosby. “We just like to spotlight that every year when we do the Toccoa  Train Day.”

City officials and citizens will welcome the train and then get on board to give out promotional information about Toccoa to the passengers. There will also be a drawing for prizes at the event, with one of the prizes being a round trip to Atlanta. Visitors can register for the drawing that morning.

The Athens Bend Track will also have a display set up in the Mitchell Allen Memorial Hall. They are a group of scale modelers who build parts of a model railroad for events such as this one.

Crosby said they are excited about this year’s train day.

“We’re real excited to be able to do it again this year to shine a focus on the importance of the railway to Toccoa ,” said Crosby. “I think people will really enjoy going to the museum and seeing the layout. It’s a very interesting display of tain
