Coan to Compete for World Team in October

Local Paralympian McKenzie Coan was once again selected to compete for the world swimming team, this time in Mexico City this October.

She previously competed in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil where she won four medals, three of them being gold.

Coan won gold in the women’s S7 50-meter, 100-meter, and 400-meter freestyle events and a silver medal in the 4 x 100-meter freestyle relay.

In addition, she set a Paralympic record in the women’s S7 50-meter freestyle event.

Since then, she has trained intensively to fully recover from a pelvic fracture and is currently in Colorado Springs, Colorado training for the October games.

Coan is favored to win in at least three events in the upcoming games, which start September 30.

Mckenzie is the daughter of Dr. Marc Coan, who practices at the Toccoa Clinic.
