County Buys Road Management Software

Stephens County is investing in road management software that county officials say is needed for the Public Works Department.

Last Tuesday, Stephens County Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of WEBDPW asset management software and services for the county’s public works department.

County Administrator Phyllis Ayers said that the county has been looking since the budget was approved for a program to help track road and other work in the public works department.

According to Ayers, the county looked at systems used by neighboring counties but could not find one that worked for Stephens County.

As a result, Ayers said the county found the WEBDPW system.

She said one thing the program will do is more efficiently track every road and how much the county has spent on every road.

“We do not have a system like that now,” said Ayers. “We have to manually go back and look at tickets.”

Ayers said the program will also create and maintain a more efficient and direct system for the filing and tracking of work orders for road work.

“Right now, it is my system,” said Ayers. “This would be a work order system that is web-based.”

Ayers said it would go directly to the crew leader and track those work orders historically

Ayers said the program can also be used to do other inventory management down the road for the public works department.

According to Ayers, the program requires a two-year commitment on the part of Stephens County.

The first year cost is $4,680 and the second year will cost the county $2,880.

Ayers said that money will be paid for out of interest accumulated by SPLOST V funds.

In other news from Tuesday’s Stephens County Commission meeting, county commissioners also unanimously approved paying an invoice for Patrol Upfitters in the amount of $25,428.84.

This was for the cost of equipping three Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicles purchased with SPLOST VI.

County commissioners tabled the item at their previous meeting, requesting more information before voting.
