County Commission having called budget work session today

The Stephens County Commission is having a called budget work session today at 8:30 a.m.

During their regularly scheduled meeting last month, the commission presented the requested FY 18 budget. At that time they didn’t have a proposed budget due to difficulty deciding on where they would make cuts.

According to Finance Director Phyllis Ayers, the commission is facing a budget that has no new revenues.

“We have just a significant amount of increases that people need to do their jobs, to retain their employees and we have no new revenue,” said Ayers.

After that meeting, the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the commission met with Ayers at a later date to narrow down each department’s requests and try to decide where cuts will be made.

This morning’s meeting will be held in the Toccoa-Stephens County Airport Conference Room and is open to the public.
