Cross Country Running Through Season

Stephens County High School’s cross-country teams are in the midst of their schedules.

Coach Chad Bridges appeared on last week’s episode of “Crunchtime” on WNEG to talk about how the team is doing so far this season.

He says both the boys’ and the girls’ cross-country teams graduated a lot last year.

As a result, Bridges said both the Indian and Lady Indian cross-country squads are very young this year.

“We are being led by a bunch of freshmen this year,” said Bridges. “On the girls’ side, Raelyn Sanders is our number one runner and she is doing well. We expect great things out of her before she leaves here. On the boys’ side, Marcus Forrester is another freshman who is running our best time.”

Overall, there are 10 girls and 11 boys out for cross country this year at Stephens County High School.

Bridges went on to say that Stephens County has its work cut out for it in both boys’ and girls’ cross-country in what is a very tough Region 8-AAAA.

“Jefferson, both of their teams are really strong,” said Bridges. “They will probably be the top team in the region. St. Pius will come in there and be really good and both the Oconee schools are really good. It is really stacked in cross-country as far as getting out of the region.”

Coming up today, the Stephens County High School cross country teams go to Jefferson for a meet.

They also have meets coming up on September 27 at Banks County, October 6, at Unicoi State Park and October 18 at Tallulah Falls before the region meet on October 26 at North Oconee.
