Currahee Clean-up Set for Saturday

An effort to help clean-up Currahee Mountain will take place this weekend.

The Currahee Graffiti Removal and Clean-up Project will be holding a clean-up day on Saturday at Currahee Mountain from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sam Taylor is an organizer of the clean-up effort.

He said it is something he and others have been working on for a couple of years.

“A couple of years ago, me and my friends decided we were going to start a volunteer group to host events on Currahee and work with the Forest Service and other organizations to basically pick up trash and eventually remove the graffiti on the mountain.”

According to Taylor, they will meet at the base of Currahee Mountain along Dick’s Hill Parkway at about 8:30 a.m. to car pool up to the top of the mountain since parking is limited.

He said once at the top, they will get to work.

“We just want people to show up and we will give them directions on where to pick up trash,” said Taylor, who explained that they would have trash bags and gloves. “We will have some people go to the bottom of the rock climbing areas and removing spray paint. We will be using the biodegradable paint thinner.”

Taylor went on to say that everyone is invited to come and help.

“This is an all-ages event,” said Taylor.
