Currahee Military Weekend Just Two Weeks Away

Currahee Weekend is slated for October fifth through the eighth in Toccoa.

In recognition of the 18,000 soldiers of the 501st, 506th, 511th, and 517th parachute infantry regiment who trained at Camp Toccoa during World War II.

Toccoa-SC Chamber and Museum Welcome Center’s Sharon Crenshaw encourages the community to come participate in the festivities of this annual event. “Tell everyone, all that you see to attend because this is a great event for these great men.”

The weekend offers several events for everyone to enjoy.

Thursday, Oct. 5, there will be a Salute to the Troops held at the Ritz Theatre.

Friday, Oct. 6, the Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Barbeque at the Armory, and later that evening there will be the annual USO Swing Dance.

Saturday, Oct. 7, will start off with the Currahee Challenge Run, VFW breakfast, Canteen Lunch, followed by the Veteran’s Parade, memorabilia show, and a dedication of the Colonel Sink exhibit.

Sunday, Oct. 8, a Tribute to Veterans will be held at Camp Toccoa at Currahee.
