Details Released on Thursday Morning Accident

The Georgia State Patrol has released more information on an accident last week in Stephens County.

That one-vehicle accident occurred on Thursday at about 6:30 a.m. on Georgia Highway 184, near Currahee Mountain, though initial reports indicated the accident was on U.S. Highway 123.

According to the Toccoa post of the GSP, a 1995 Ford F-150 driven by 34-year-old Matthew Robert Moore of Toccoa was traveling north on Highway 184 approaching a right curve when the vehicle failed to maintain its lane while entering the curve.

Authorities said the truck crossed both the double yellow centerline and the southbound lane of Highway 184 before traveling down a steep roadside embankment.

The report stated that the truck then hit a dirt culvert and overturned once, coming to rest on its wheels and traveling a total of about 30 feet.

Troopers said Moore was totally ejected from the vehicle and came to rest near the driver’s side door area.

A passerby discovered the accident and called authorities, who said Moore was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by EMS Air in critical condition.
