Drug Arrests Lead to new Drug Tip Line at Toccoa Police Dept.

Police Chief Tim Jarrell reports the arrest of two people on drug charges Tuesday night.

Around 5:45 p.m., Officer McKinney and his K-9 partner, Warlock responded to a complaint of a strong odor of marijuana at Falls Park Apartments.

After making contact with the residents of the apartment, Officer McKinney secured a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of marijuana and drug related objects.

The individuals were identified as Ty’Jai Trammell, 22 of Toccoa, and Tametha Marie Brewer, 22 of Toccoa. Both females were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects and tampering with evidence.

They were transported to the Stephens County Jail.

Jarrell said that the Toccoa Police Department is continually working to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Toccoa and one way they are hoping to do this is through a drug tip line that is now in place for citizens to provide information.

“In an effort to work together, we’re asking our citizens to use a drug tip line that we now have in place at the police department,” said Jarrell. “This number is accessible by the police chief. Individuals can remain anonymous. The number has a recording that’s availabe 24/7.”

The number is answered by a recording so the caller can provide information without feeling pressured into answering questions.

Jarrell said that this tip line does not take the place of emergency 911, but instead it should be used for information on crimes not in progress. He says that a tip line was brought back because calls to the police station have increased.

“Our case clearances have increased and our recovery of stolen property has increased,” said Jarrell. “Our drug arrests have increased, and the only reason these increases are occurring is because citizens are helping us with it.”

The phone number for the tip line is 706-282-3302.
