Early Voting Off to Fast Start

Early voting turnout has been incredibly heavy so far.

That is according to Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran.

He said that he is very pleased with how the first three days of early voting have gone for the November election.

According to Cochran, 13 percent of the active voters have already voted, including more than 1200 on the machines and 556 absentees by mail.

“We have been able to move people through very quickly,” said Cochran of early voting. “It is taking less than five minutes for someone to vote. I am very proud of the poll workers.”

Early voting for the November election continues Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through November 4.

There will also be early voting on Saturday, October 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All early voting takes place at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office, which is located in the Stephens County Courthouse Annex on Tugalo Street in downtown Toccoa.

Voters are of course, making their choice in the presidential election, but there are other races on the ballot.

In Stephens County, voters are choosing a State Court Solicitor as Democratic incumbent Willie Woodruff runs against Republican challenger Ann Pickett.

Also, Johnny Isakson is running for re-election to the U.S. Senate against two challengers, Democrat Jim Barksdale and Libertarian Allen Buckley.

In addition, there is a Public Service Commission race and a host of state constitutional amendment questions on the ballot.

Those who do not vote early will cast ballots on November 8 at the Stephens County Senior Center.
