FCSO aid in returning abducted child

On Monday night, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies we’re informed by E-911 that a 5-year-old-male child had been abducted by his father in Virginia at gunpoint.

According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, the subject was identified as David Eugene Brewster and was in the Lavonia area.

Brewster was reported to be driving a black 2003 Ford Expedition with Tennessee temporary plates.

His phone was being “pinged” off the local Gerard Road cell tower.

Deputies began checking all the hotels in the area and the vehicle was located at the Hampton Inn parking in the rear of the building.

FCSO deputies and Lavonia police officers entered the motel making contact with the desk clerk and requested the room number for the person who was driving the black vehicle.

The room was Registered to David Brewster.

Officers gained entry to the room and arrested David Eugene Brewster and rescued the child without further incident.

Department of Family and Children’s Services was notified and met deputies at the Franklin County Detention Center with the child.

The child’s mother was contacted and was en route to get her son.

David Eugene Brewster was charged with abduction by parent, child removed from the state and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Brewster was held for an extradition to return to the state of Virginia.

Franklin County Sheriff thanked E-911 operators and Lavonia police officers for their assistance.
