Five Stephens County High School student athletes announce choices on where they will continue their athletic and academic careers in college.

The five signed at an event Wednesday at the high school media center.

jered brown

Brown signs

First, Jered Brown signed to play soccer at Emmanuel College.

He said tradition and location were two reasons he chose to play there.

“It is close by,” said Brown. “It has always been one of my top picks for soccer. They have had an amazing soccer program.”

Brown said he hopes to play either striker or defender and study sports management.

Meanwhile, two Stephens County athletes will continue their careers at Brenau University.

emily mote

Mote signs

Emily Mote will play basketball there in college.

Mote said she has heard a lot about the program and looks forward to competing to see where she fits in on the court.

“Hopefully, I will continue playing in the post, but with my size, I may have to move to the wing,” said Mote. “I am planning to work on it over the summer so I am looking forward to seeing what is in store next year.”

She said she will consider a double major in physical therapy and sports medicine.

lexie cash

Cash signs

Meanwhile, Lexie Cash signed to play softball.

She said she is excited to join Mote at the same school and still follow her own athletic path.

“I am really looking forward to going with my best friend, who is playing basketball,” said Cash. “I look forward to the experience there. They have a lot of tradition. I am excited about it.”

Cash said she will study health science off the field and hopes to play the middle infield on the field.

Two Stephens County athletes are also headed to Shorter to continue their careers next year.

devin burns

Burns signs

Devin Burns will both play football and wrestle at Shorter.

He said he is excited for the opportunity to participate in both in college.

“They have a good education and they are a Christian school, small classrooms, and getting the opportunity to play both sports, I could not beat it,” said Burns.

On the field, he said he hopes to line up at fullback and off the field, he says he plans to study business.

logan loudermilk

Loudermilk signs

Logan Loudermilk said that he is also headed to Shorter for football.

“I went down to their campus and I just loved the atmosphere down there,” said Loudermilk.

He said he hopes to play middle linebacker and off the field, he is considering what to major in.

Burns and Loudermilk said they are excited to join Mason Long at Shorter next year.

Meanwhile, Stephens County High School Athletic Director Frank Barden said he is proud to see these five student athletes reach this moment.

“No question that is one of our major goals is to have these kids get to the next level and the opportunity to go play the sport that they are in at the next level is just outstanding,” said Barden. “To have the opportunity to play and enjoy the sport, but to use that to get an education.”

He credited the athletes for their hard work on and off the field and also credits their coaches for their work in working with the student athletes to help them achieve this goal.
