A Franklin County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering from injuries he received during a foot pursuit on Interstate 85 this week.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said Deputy Antwane McCurry was injured while backing up another deputy during that pursuit.

There was no word on the extent of Deputy McCurry’s injuries, but he is expected to recover.

The chase began about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday when a deputy pulled over a vehicle for a routine traffic stop on I-85 southbound.

Thomas said that as the deputy was waiting for information on the driver and the vehicle from dispatch, the driver got out of the car on the Interstate near mile marker 160 and ran.

He said the deputy chased the suspect on foot on I-85 southbound in the rain and called for backup and Deputy McCurry arrived to assist in the chase.

According to Thomas, the suspect, who at one point ran into oncoming traffic, was eventually caught and taken into custody.

Sheriff Thomas has not released the suspect’s name, but does say he was wanted in Dekalb County on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault on a police officer.

Thomas said the suspect was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
