Franklin Co. Schools Putting Cameras On Buses

Franklin County school buses are getting some new equipment designed to keep students safe both inside and outside of the bus.

Franklin County Schools Transportation Director Jason Ayers said the system is working to equip all of its 54 buses with special cameras to catch motorists who don’t stop for a school bus.

Ayers said Franklin County continues to have a problem on some routes with motorists not obeying the law and stopping when a school bus stops.

Ayers said the new cameras are attached to the stop swing arm on the outside of the school bus.

He said they are doing a great job of catching those offenders and identifying exactly who they are.

In Georgia, motorists must stop when they see a school bus stop whether it’s directly in front of them or they are coming from the opposite direction.

The only exception is on a four lane highway with a permanent median in between.
