Governor Makes D.A. Appointment

Current acting Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George R. Christian will serve out the remainder of former D.A. Brian Rickman’s term.

Tuesday, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced the appointment of Christian as district attorney of the Mountain Judicial Circuit, which covers Stephens, Habersham, and Rabun counties.

Christian fills the vacancy created when Rickman was appointed to the Georgia Court of Appeals.

Since Rickman moved to the Georgia Court of Appeals to start his term in January after being appointed by the governor, Christian filled the role of Acting D.A.

Christian was previously the Chief Assistant D.A. for the Mountain Judicial Circuit under Rickman.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and a law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.

Prior to his work in the Mountain Judicial Circuit, Christian previously served as chief assistant district attorney for the Houston Judicial Circuit and assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Georgia.

Christian resides in Clayton.

Rickman’s term as D.A. was to run through the end of this year and the position is on the ballot for election this year.
