GSP Releases Details on Tuesday Accident

Authorities said two people suffered minor injuries after an accident Tuesday afternoon in Stephens County.

It occurred on Georgia Highway 17 Alternate, just south of Bend N’ Hickory at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, a 2015 IC Bus owned by Loomis Armored US LLC and driven by 26-year-old John William David of Danielsville was headed southbound on 17 Alternate while negotiating a left curve.

The GSP said the right side tires of the vehicle traveled off the west shoulder of the road and onto soft ground, at which point authorities said the driver overcorrected to the left, sending the vehicle back into the roadway, where it spun and turned over on to its left side.

The vehicle then slid down and off the roadway, finally stopping on the east shoulder of 17 Alternate.

According to the report from troopers, the driver was checked by EMS at the scene for a minor injury but not transported.

Authorities said a passenger in the vehicle, 29-year-old Shawn Michael King of Lawrenceville, had minor injuries to his hand but was not transported.

The GSP said the driver was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane.
