Holiday Inn Express Says “Yes” To Toccoa

Reaction is coming in about the announcement regarding Holiday Inn Express in Toccoa.

This week, the parent company for the chain said that Toccoa was approved for a Holiday Inn Express.

Compnay officials said the hotel will be located on South Big A Road.

A sign marks the location as the site of the former Host Inn.

The old Host Inn building will have to be demolished.

It closed back in April after Toccoa city and Health Department officials found numerous code issues with the building.

Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter said they are pleased with the re-development.

“We are pleased to see that happening on a piece of property that at one time had a facility that had to be condemned,” said Carter. “It is a wonderful thing for our community.”

Representatives for the parent company of Holiday Inn Express say it will be a brand new building that will open in the Spring of 2017 and have 90 rooms.

Construction on the hotel is expected to begin in the Fall of 2016.

Stephens County Development Authority Chair Brian Akin called it great news.

“On behalf of the Stephens County Development Authority, I want to say that our efforts to attract a national chain hotel have been successful,” said Akin. “This has been one of our primary goals for some time and a national hotel serves as a great tool for recruiting other businesses and industries to an area.”

A sign on the property also says that the developers are seeking a restaurant to go on the site with the Holiday Inn Express.
