Homeowner Catches Burglar with Home Security Cameras

Do you ever get the feeling you’re being watched?

Unfortunately for Barron Jiles Hughes, 62, of Appling, Georgia, he didn’t get the feeling as he was being filmed by security cameras, while burglarizing a home on East Silver Shoals Road, on Feb. 18.

The homeowner of the residence provided the surveillance footage of the suspect committing the burglary to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Randy Shirley told WNEG News about the incident.

“The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a home down on East Silver Shoals Road on Feb. 18, about a burglary that occurred at his residence, the homeowner provided deputies with some very good physical evidence,” Shirley said. “He had video surveillance cameras that captured an image of the individual that went into his house and stole some items.”

Shirley added that the surveillance footage was instrumental in identifying the suspect.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to authorities in Appling, Georgia to further aid in the investigation, and are hoping to make an arrest soon.

Hughes is facing a charge of second degree burglary.
