Hudgins Named Active Senior of Year at Senior Expo

AM 630 WNEG Radio honors its Active Senior of the Year.

The award was handed out during Thursday’s annual WNEG Senior Expo at the Stephens County Recreation Department Complex on Rose Lane.

This year’s winner is J.B. Hudgins.

He said he loves being a part of the Toccoa and Stephens County community.

“The people from Stephens County have been good to me,” said Hudgins. “It has been a wonderful place. I do appreciate it. It’s been nice.”

Hudgins graduated from Toccoa High School in 1949 after moving here at the age of 7.

Through the years, he has served as a Stephens County Commissioner, Chairman of the Stephens County School Board, President of the Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of the Development Authority.

Hudgins has also served on the Toccoa Housing Authority board, the Northeast Georgia Piedmont District Boy Scout Committee, the board of directors of the Citizens Bank, Northeast Georgia Regional Library Board, the Toccoa-Stephens County Library Board, the Rotary Club, and on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Home Furnishings Association.

He worked at Hudgins Furniture for more than 40 years before retiring.

Hudgins and his wife, Elaine, are active members at Toccoa First United Methodist Church, where he has served as a Trustee.

Also earlier this year, he and Elaine competed in the “Dancing with The Congregation” fundraiser at the church for youth missions.

Hudgins also enjoys gardening and playing tennis.
