Authorities have identified the person killed when a high-speed chase through two counties on Interstate 85 ended in a wreck Tuesday afternoon.

According to officials, the person killed is 19-year-old Marion Ahlexus Shore of McDonough.

She was killed when 21-year old Thanquarius Calhoun of McDonough crashed while fleeing from authorities on I-85 near the Lavonia exit Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas said it started at about 2 p.m. Tuesday in Banks County when deputies tried to stop Calhoun’s Toyota Corolla for speeding near Exit 149 on the interstate.

Thomas said Franklin County deputies picked up the chase, which reached speeds over 100 miles an hour, and were joined by the Georgia State Patrol.

According to Thomas, Calhoun crashed when one of the GSP troopers got along side of the Toyota and the suspect side swiped the trooper’s cruiser.

Thomas said Calhoun’s vehicle went off the road, down an embankment, and struck a tree.

Calhoun was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Authorities said Calhoun will face charges including first-degree vehicular homicide.

A third person that was also riding in Calhoun’s vehicle was taken to Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center in Lavonia for treatment of injuries.
