Ida Cox Music Series Continues Saturday in Toccoa

Toccoa’s Ida Cox Music Series moves into its second month this weekend.

The outdoor concert series kicked off at the beginning of June.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that the first month of concerts went very well.

“We have not had rain any of the nights,” said Crosby. “The nights have been nice and cool. We have had a great turnout. This last one for Clay Leverette, we had well over 300 people there. It was just a fun, relaxing evening and someone actually came up to me and said that this is what Toccoa is all about; just being together, relaxing, enjoying some good music and being together with friends and family.”

The outdoor concerts take place Saturday nights from 7 to 10 p.m. on Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa.

Crosby said that this Saturday, a group called Cicada Rhythm will take the stage.

“It is a duet,” said Crosby. “They do some instrumentals and some vocals as well. It is a very interesting kind of music. It is kind of alternative folk. I think people will really enjoy them.”

The concerts are free to attend.

Crosby said that this year’s Ida Cox Music Series will continue through July 27.

On July 13, Eddie and the Public Speakers will perform.

Then on July 20, it will be a local showcase featuring area talent.

“We will have a variety of bands playing that night,” said Crosby.

The series wraps up on July 27 with Velvet Truckstop.

“They were actually one of the bands that was here last year and was very popular,” said Crosby. “Many people asked to have them come back again, so we are looking forward to having them.”

In addition, on both July 13 and July 27, Toccoa Main Street will show movies at the Schaefer Center prior to start of the Ida Cox show.

On July 13, the movie will be 2009’s “Star Trek” and on July 27, it will be 1939’s “The Wizard of Oz.”

The start time for both movies will be 3 p.m.

Admission to all of the movies is $3 for those over the age of 12 and free for those under 12. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
