Ida Cox Music Series Starts Saturday

The city of Toccoa kicks off an annual summer concert series this weekend.

Saturday, Main Street Toccoa will host the first concert in the annual Ida Cox Music Series.

If weather permits, the concerts are each Saturday night from 7 to 10 p.m. outside on Doyle Street in downtown Toccoa.

In case of rain, the concerts are moved indoors to the Schaefer Center.

Either way, the Ida Cox concerts are free to attend.

Toccoa Main Street Events Coordinator Sharon Crosby said that they are looking forward to a great season.

“We close off Doyle Street, from Pond to Sage Street, just turn it into a concert venue,” said Crosby. “There is food available. It is a great night. People will bring their chairs and just enjoy a great evening of music. There is a variety from week to week of what genre of music will be played. We hope that we have gotten what everyone will like. We invite people to just come and enjoy a nice evening with their friends, their neighbors, and their family.”

The Ida Cox Music Series is named after Ida Cox. She was a Toccoa native who was a vaudeville performer and became one of the pioneers of the blues genre of music.

This Saturday’s group for the Ida Cox Music Series is Nick and the Grooves.

They play a combination of Jazz-Funk and Blues-Rock.

This year’s Ida Cox Music Series runs through August 8.
