Indian Boys Fall in Region Hoops Quarterfinals

The Stephens County Indian boys’ basketball season comes to a close.

Stephens County lost in the boys Region 8-AAAA quarterfinals to Johnson on Saturday 77-44.

Stephens County trailed by six after one quarter and by 11 at the half.

But in the third quarter, Johnson outscored the Indians 28-4 to put the game out of reach.

Ty Cockfield led Johnson with 25 points.  James Hodges added 19 points and Justin Jones scored 14 points for the Knights.

Tavoris Davis was the only Indian in double figures, scoring 12 points.  Chris Jones scored nine points and Evan Rumsey added seven for Stephens County.

Stephens County ends the season 5-21.

As for Johnson, the Knights advance to the region semi-finals to face sixth-seeded Lumpkin County, who upset third-seeded Lanier.

The Stephens County Lady Indians will be back in action in the girls’ Region 8-AAAA semi-finals on Monday at LanierHigh School against top-seeded Chestatee.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and air time on AM 630 WNEG and wnegradio.com is set for 6:45 p.m.
