Indian Wrestling Team Holds Banquet

Stephens County High School wrestling wraps up its season with its year-end banquet.

The Indian wrestling program held its annual banquet on Sunday at the High School.

In all, 40 student-athletes were honored for participating in wrestling this school year.

Five wrestlers were recognized for making the State Sectional Tournament. They were Javon Jones, Corey Kindel, Jake Murray, Jay Stowe, and Dylan Defoor.

Jones, Kindel, Murray, and Stowe also later qualified for the State championship tournament.

Awards given out were as follows:

• Rising Indian (upcoming middle school wrestler with most promise) – Eli Stowe
• Most Improved Wrestler – Dylan Defoor
• Most Outstanding Wrestler – Javon Jones
• Academic Award – Jay Stowe
• Bill Maynard Hanging Tough Award for the best all-around type award named in honor of former coach Bill Maynard, who passed away due to cancer last year – Jake Murray

Murray, Jones, and Dalton Roberts were also recognized as Captains.
