Indians defeat Falcons

After playing on the road for the first two games of the season, the Stephens County Indians had a big win over the Flowery Branch Falcons in the home opener Friday night, 41-7, at the Reservation in Toccoa.

Indians’ quarterback Jackson Bell threw two touchdown passes in the first half, a 27-yarder to A.J. Curry and a 5-yarder to Donovan Curry.

Bell also ran 75 yards for a score and Dylan Huff intercepted a pass and returned it 44 yards for a touchdown to give the Indians a 27-0 halftime lead.

The Indians would tally two more touchdowns in the second half on a 36-yard run by A.J. Howard and a 44-yard-run by Hassan Brown.

Flowery Branch’s only score would come in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown pass.

Stephens County was led by Bell, who had 120 yards rushing on 7 attempts and 112 yards passing, while completing 7 of 12 passes.

A.J. Curry caught three passes for 83 yards.

Stephens County improves to 2-1 with the win, while Flowery Branch drops to 1-2.

Indians’ Head Coach Frank Barden said it was good to bounce back with a big win at home after the loss to Rabun County.

“Great crowd,” said Barden. “We really appreciate our fans and our community. For our football team, it is real simple. We just have to continue to work hard and be a fundamentally sound football team and put a good product on the field. You have to take care of business inside your own camp and we did a good job this week of our kids coming back and going to work.”

Stephens County plays at home again this Friday night as they host Habersham Central at the Reservation.

Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
