Indians Down Blue Devils

The Stephens County Indians improved to 3-0 on the season with a 7-4 victory over highly ranked Elbert County on Wednesday night.

Elbert County, one of the top rated teams in Class AA got on the board first when Payton Adams reached on an error and scored on a single by Mason Anderson.

The Indians came back with 3 in the bottom of the inning when Dawson Sorrells reached on a two-out infield single. Dawson Dean doubled Sorrells home, moved to third on an Elbert error, and scored on a balk call. The Indians added another run when Bryson Fowler walked, Eli Wenger-pinch running for Fowler stole 2nd, and scored on a Cole Beitzel single.

The Indians added another run in the 4th inning when Fowler doubled, Beitzel singled, and Wenger scored on a fielders choice, hit by Griff Pruitt.

Elbert County cut the lead to 4-2 on a Max Almond single, and Adams double.

Stephens County stretched the lead to 7-2 in the sixth on a huge bases loaded double by Austin Page that scored Beitzel, Cayden Maxwell, and Pruitt.

Elbert County scored two in the top of the seventh, but Fowler, on in relief, got a strikeout to finish the game.

Davis Swenson picked up his second win on the season going a strong 6 and 1/3 innings allowing seven hits and striking out eight. Anderson got the loss for Elbert County as the Blue Devils fell to 4-1 on the season.

The Indians will return to action on Friday when they travel to Elbert County for the first road game of the season. Airtime is scheduled for 5:20 P.M. with first pitch at 5:30 P.M. on WNEG.
