Indians Face Rabun in Football Tonight

Stephens County will head north to try to win its second straight game to start the 2016 football season.

The Indians will travel to Tiger tonight to take on the Rabun County Wildcats in a non-region contest.

Last week, the Indians jumped out to a 47-0 halftime lead on the way to a 61-20 win over Franklin County in the 2016 season opener.

Meanwhile, Rabun County has yet to play an official game as the Wildcats’ game last week with Mt. Pisgah Christian was called off due to weather before the teams reached halftime.

It has been nearly 60 years since Stephens County and Rabun County played on the football field as the Indians and Wildcats last played in 1959. Rabun County did play Toccoa High School in 1970.

Indians’ Defensive Coordinator Rob Stowe said the Indian defense will have a challenge in containing Rabun’s quarterback, Bailey Fisher.

Stowe said Fisher presents many of the same challenges to a defense as Stephens County quarterback Jackson Bell.

“He is a great athlete and a good person, too,” said Stowe. “It is going to be hard. Like I said earlier about Jackson (Bell), he is the same kind of quarterback, a guy that can beat you with his legs, his arm. Tough to defend for. You have to stay in your rush lanes when you rush him because if you do not, he will find that gap and be gone before you know it.”

Kick-off from Rabun County tonight is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coverage on the new 93.1 FM/AM 630 WNEG begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Indian Road Show, followed by Coach’s Corner at 7 p.m. and live pre-game coverage starting at 7:15 p.m.

Indian football is also broadcast online at wnegradio.com.

In other area games tonight, Hart County is at Westside, South Carolina, Banks County is at Johnson of Gainesville, and Habersham Central is at White County, while Franklin County has the week off.

Looking around Region 8-AAAA, Jefferson hosts Thomson, Madison County is at Elbert County, Oconee County is at Walnut Grove, North Oconee is at Morgan County, and St. Pius hosts Benedictine.
