Indians Fall To Carrollton; Football Season Ends

The Stephens County Indians’ football season comes to an end in the first-round of the state playoffs.

Carrollton used a host of big plays to defeat Stephens County Friday night in the opening round of the AAAA football playoffs by a score of 34-7.

Indians’ Head Coach Frank Barden said the team played hard and can use this as a learning experience moving forward.

“It did end for our seniors and I hate that it ended for our seniors, but our underclassmen better bank it, they better understand what it takes to play at this level and in the playoffs,” said Barden. “When you get here, you have to be playing at a high level. You never want to end this way. It is part of the growing process. We have to keep growing. We have to keep getting better.”

The Trojans opened the scoring with two first-quarter touchdowns, scoring on both a Jarvis Terrell 60-yard touchdown run and a 60-yard touchdown pass from Mark Wright to Thomas Colwell.

Stephens County got on the board when Jackson Bell completed a seven-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Curry on fourth down to make it 14-7.

However, Carrollton scored the final 20 points of the game.

Just before halftime, the Trojans made it 21-7 when DeMarcus Mitchell scored on a 23-yard touchdown run.

In the third quarter, Mark Wright’s second touchdown pass, a 56-yarder to Nick Cade, made it 27-7 in favor of the Trojans.

Carrollton wrapped up the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run from Angelo Osario.

Stephens County ends the year with a record of 8-3 overall.

Meanwhile, Carrollton moves to 6-5 and will advance to the second round of the state playoffs this coming week.
