Indians Finish Non-Region at 14-1

Stephens County got great pitching, steady defense, and timely hitting, and rolled to a 5-1 win over Prince Avenue Christian Thursday night in Athens.

The Indians scored three in the top of the first when Austin Page singled, Bryson Fowler walked, Chaz Bridges singled, Page scored on an error, Dawson Dean singled scoring Carson Brock running for Fowler, and Zach Brock got a fielders choice RBI scoring Bridges.

Prince Avenue’s lone run came in the 2nd inning to cut the lead to 3-1, but the Indians came back with two in the fifth when Cole Beitzel walked and scored on Zach Boyd’s RBI Double, and Boyd scored on a Kole Rogers single.

The Indians had seven hits and left 10 on base. Boyd had two RBI’s, Dean and Rogers one each, and Bridges had two hits.

The Indians were outstanding on the mound with Dawson Sorrells getting the win to move to 4-0. Sorrells pitched three innings allowing one run on two hits. Davis Swenson also went three scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out four, and Bridges struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

Trey Felt got the loss on the mound for the Wolverines who fall to 7-5.

Stephens County completes their non-region schedule with a record of 14-1 and will now prepare for the Region-8 season to start on Monday when they host Oconee County at the Reservation. Airtime is set for 5:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5:55 P.M. on WNEG.
