Indians Remain Unbeaten with Win at Elbert

The Stephens County Indians scored three runs in the first inning, followed with 4 more in the 2nd inning and held on for a 7-3 victory at Elbert County in their first road game of the year Friday night in Elberton.

With 2 out in the first inning, Cayden Maxwell was hit by a pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on the throw. Dawson Dean then doubled Maxwell home, and scored on Bryson Fowler’s RBI single. Eli Wenger, running for Fowler, stole second and scored on Cole Beitzel’s single to make it 3-0.

The Indians got 4 in the second when Zach Boyd led off with a double, Griff Pruitt had a bunt single, Austin Page was hit by a pitch, Dawson Sorrells singled to score Boyd, Maxwell reached on an error to score Pruitt, and Dean singled scoring both Page and Sorrells.

Elbert County starting pitcher Daniel Lavender was replaced by Dawson Dye in the 2nd inning with 2 men on and no outs. Dye was outstanding the rest of the way holding the Indians scoreless through six innings.

Elbert County was able to push across 3 runs on 4 hits in the 3rd inning but was stymied by an outstanding effort from Indians pitcher Gabe White who allowed only those 4 hits in 6 innings and struck out five.

Dawson Sorrells closed out the game in the 7th inning striking out two.

Dawson Dean was 2-3 with 3 RBI’s, Griff Pruitt was 3-4, and Sorrells, Fowler, and Beitzel had RBI’s.

The Indians move to 4-0 on the season, Elbert County falls to 4-2.

Stephens County will be back in action on Saturday in Habersham County. The Indians will face Banks County at 2 P.M., and Habersham Central at 5 P.M. Airtime is 1:45 on WNEG.
