Indians Run Rule Raiders on Walk-Off

Stephens County’s Dawson Dean hit a two-run walk off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Indians banged out 15 hits to roll to a 13-3 win over Habersham Central on Friday night.

For the second straight game the Indians trailed 2-0 after the top of the 1st inning. The Indians got one back in the bottom of the 1st when Austin Page led off with a double and scored on a Dawson Sorrells sacrifice fly.

The Indians trailed 3-1 in the 2nd inning and it could have been worse without an outstanding defensive play by Eli Wenger that saved two runs. The Indians rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryson Fowler had a solo home run, and Cayden Maxwell, Dean, and Griff Pruitt all scored in the inning.

The Indians added two more runs in the 3rd inning when Fowler walked, Cole Beitzel singled, and Maxwell hit a 2-run double.

Stephens County extended the lead to 11-3 in the 4th inning when Fowler, Beitzel,Maxwell, and Dean had hits.

Dean’s 2-run home run in the sixth not only ended the game, but also gave him 4-RBI’s on the night. Maxwell, Pruitt, and Sorrells each had 2 RBI’s.

Sorrells got the win on the mound going 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, and striking out seven. Gabe White pitched a scoreless sixth.

Colby Jones took the loss for Habersham Central.

The Indians are now 2-0. Saturday’s scheduled game with East Jackson was rained out. The next game is scheduled for Wednesday when Stephens County plays host to Elbert County.
