Indians Season Ends at Sandy Creek

The Stephens County Indians 2017-2018 Boys Basketball season came to an end Thursday night at Sandy Creek falling 73-52 in the AAAA Playoffs Round of 16 in Tyrone, Georgia.

The Indians led by 5 at 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, and trailed by just two at the half. The Indians were still within striking distance at the end of the 3rd quarter trailing 47-40, but the Patriots had a dominating 4th quarter outscoring the Indians 26-12.

Stephens County was led in scoring by senior Deundra’ Singleton with 21 points, senior Chaz Bridges and junior Ty Nails scored 11 each.

Jarred Godfrey led Sandy Creek with 27 points. The Patriots move to 24-5 on the season.

The Stephens County Indians finish the season with a record of 21-9, the second year in a row that the Indians won more than twenty games.

This was the final game for one of the more successful senior classes in the history of Stephens County High School Basketball.Those seniors include:Chaz Bridges, Brandon Wheeler, Ty Scott, Montavis Thornton, Jackson Bell, Paul Bellamy, Braxton Lawrence, and Deundra’ Singleton.

Other area teams advancing to the State quarterfinals include in AAAA St Pius from Region-8, and Hart County in AAA.

On the girls side, three Region-8 teams are among the final 8 in AAAA with Jefferson, Madison County, and North Oconee all advancing. Franklin County remains undefeated and advanced in AAA, and Rabun County and Banks County are among the final eight teams in AA.
