Indians Take Second In Region Hoops Tourney

Stephens County finishes second in Region 8-AAAA basketball.

The Indians came up just short in the Region Championship game Saturday night, falling by a score of 84-59 to St. Pius at Jefferson High School.

St. Pius started the game with four straight three-pointers to build a lead they would never relinquish. The Indians trailed by six points after the first quarter and 18 points at halftime, then got no closer than 11 points in the second half.

Malik Feaster led the Indians with 12 points Saturday, while Ty Nails and NuNu Walker each scored 10 points.

The Indians got to the championship by defeating Madison County, 53-46, in the semi-finals on Friday. Nails led the Indians with 14 points on Friday, while Walker scored 13.

Both NuNu Walker and De-Undre Singleton made the boys’ all-tournament team.

The Indians are now 20-7 on the season and will enter the state AAAA basketball tournament as the second seed from Region 8-AAAA.

They will play the third seed from Region 6-AAAA, Heritage of Catoosa, on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Currahee Arena in Toccoa.

In other scores from the Region 8-AAAA basketball tournament, Jefferson won the girls’ title, 42-29, over North Oconee, Madison County took third place in the girls’ tournament, beating St. Pius, 48-39, and North Oconee took third place on the boys’ side, beating Madison County, 61-54.
