Indians Take St. Pius in Five for Win Number 20

It was a cold and windy night, but the Stephens County Indians were swinging hot bats.

The Indians banged out 16 hits and rolled to a 15-3 win over St. Pius Monday night at the Reservation.

It was senior night at Stephens County and the senior class stepped up big. Zach Boyd went 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBI’s, Austin Page was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and scored 4 times, Chaz Bridges and Bryson Fowler had 2 RBI’s each, Kole Rogers went 3 for 3  with an RBI and 2 runs scored, and Griff Pruitt went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Those six seniors and starters Cole Beitzel and Dawson Dean were honored before the game.

Juniors Dawson Sorrells and Davis Swenson also had big games. Sorrells went 3 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.Swenson got the win on the mound to improve to 6-3 on the year. Swenson went all 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out seven.

The Indians improve to 6-7 in Region-8 AAAA and 20-8 overall. St. Pius dropped their 5th straight and falls to 5-8 in the Region and 16-12 overall.

The Indians are now one win away from clinching a state playoff birth. Stephens County can also still finish 3rd in Region-8 AAAA by winning out this week and getting some help from Jefferson who is facing Madison County. Those two teams postponed game one of their series and moved it to Tuesday night.

Stephens County will be on the road in Atlanta on Wednesday for game 2 vs. St. Pius. Airtime is set for 4:45 P.M. with first pitch at 5 P.M. on WNEG.
