Indians, Warriors Battle Tonight in Toccoa

Stephens County hosts Oconee County tonight in key region contest.

Both teams enter tonight’s game 6-1 overall and 2-0 in region play.

Last week, Stephens County beat Madison County, 34-7, while Oconee County came from behind to beat St. Pius, 20-16.

The Indians and Warriors are two of the three teams tied for first place in Region 8-AAAA. The third team is Jefferson.

Stephens County Offensive Coordinator Caleb Sorrells said Oconee County has a very strong defense.

“Their three defensive lineman inside are big, good, strong players,” said Sorrells. “They have probably the two best corners we have seen all year long. They have a strong safety that can make a lot of plays all over the field. It will be interesting to see how we can win those one-on-one matchups.”

Tonight also marks the return of former Indians’ Head Coach Travis Noland to the Reservation.

Noland coached at Stephens County for nine years before taking the head job at Oconee County in 2014.

Kick-off tonight at Stephens County High School is set for 7:30 p.m.

Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on the new 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG with the Indian Tailgate Show. Coach’s Corner starts at 7 p.m. and pre-game coverage from the Reservation starts at 7:15 p.m.
