Investigation Continues Into Tuesday Accident

The Georgia State Patrol continues to search for the person who was driving a car involved in a one-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in Stephens County.

According to the Toccoa post of the Georgia State Patrol, officers were notified of a crash on Brookhaven Circle at about 1:47 a.m. on Tuesday.

The GSP said that Senior Trooper Jason Stephens responded to the scene and found that the driver of a white 2005 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Brookhaven Circle negotiating a curve.

Stephens reported that the vehicle traveled off of the west shoulder of the roadway and the driver lost control as the vehicle ended up traveling off of the road’s east shoulder.

After that, the GSP said the Camry went down an embankment and struck a tree.

Following the wreck, Trooper Stephens said the driver of the scene fled on foot, but a passenger, 28-year-old Alexander Gober of Toccoa, had to be extracted and was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

The GSP searched the area with an aviation unit following the wreck, but could not find the driver.

Senior Trooper Stephens is continuing to follow leads that will lead to the apprehension of the driver.
