IRS Extends Deadlines for Georgia Taxpayers Due to Irma

The Internal Revenue Service is offering some help to any Georgia who experienced damage from Hurricane Irma.

On Monday, the IRS announced anyone who filed an extension on their 2016 individual or business tax return now has until January 31, 2018 to file that return.

The normal deadline is October 16 for individuals and for businesses it was September 15th.

The extended deadline also covers those who make quarterly estimated tax payments.

In addition, the IRS is waiving late-deposit penalties for federal payroll and excise tax deposits normally due during the first 15 days of the disaster period.

The tax relief is part of a coordinated federal response to the damage caused by severe storms and flooding and is based on local damage assessments by FEMA.
