Lady Indian Softball Starts State Tourney Today

Stephens County High School will play host to a first-round state playoff series in the AAAA softball tournament starting today.

The Lady Indians are the second-seeded team representing Region 8-AAAA and are hosting LaFayette, the third-seeded team out of Region 6-AAAA, in Toccoa starting today for a best two-out-of-three series.

Game times today are at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the first two games of the series.

The winner of the series between Stephens County and LaFayette will move on to play either Salem or Mary Persons in the second round.

Stephens County is one of four Region 8-AAAA teams in the state softball playoffs.

Elsewhere, Region 8-AAAA champion Jefferson is hosting Heritage of Catoosa, third-place Oconee County is visiting Northwest Whitfield, and fourth place Madison County is visiting Ridgeland.

Another area team in state softball playoff action include Franklin County, who finished fourth in Region 8-AAA and is visiting Calhoun in the first round of the AAA playoffs.
