Lake Hartwell to Open Campgrounds and Recreation Areas on May 1

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District is preparing for another summer season on Lake Hartwell.

This week, they announced the opening of their area campsites and recreation areas. 

In Hart County, Paynes Creek Campground, and the Georgia River Campground will open May 1. 

Additionally, Oconee Point Campground and Coneross Campground in Oconee County, South Carolina will open May 1. 

And some day use areas will also open officially on the first of May. 

They include, Poplar Springs Day Use Area in Franklin County, which is a no swim area and has no playground. 

And the Elrod Ferry Day Use Area in Hart County will also open on the first. 

In South Carolina, the River Forks Day Use Area and the Weldon Island Day Use Area, Anderson County, will open on the first along with the Friendship Day Use Area in Oconee County, South Carolina  and the Twin Lakes Day Use Area in Pickens County, South Carolina.

Dayuse areas provide picnic shelters, picnic sites, and restroom facilities. 

Most also provide playgrounds, swim beaches and boat ramps with courtesy dock and security lighting.
