Lavonia Man Found Guilty in Burglary Case

A Stephens County jury finds a Lavonia man guilty of First Degree Burglary and other charges.

On Friday, Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney George R. Christian announced that a jury convicted 31-year-old Octavius Jermaine Campbell of Lavonia of Burglary 1st Degree and other charges in connection with a residential burglary that occurred in Stephens County in May 2015.

Authorities said Campbell was accused of stealing rifles and household electronics from a Cheek Smith Road residence.

Christian said that Campbell, who had six previous felony convictions, including convictions for twelve residential burglaries in Franklin and Hart Counties in 2007 and 2009, was sentenced as a recidivist to 25 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to Christian, Campbell was on parole for the prior burglary convictions at the time he committed the Burglary in May 2015.

The case was investigated by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Toccoa Police Department and the Franklin and Hart County Sheriff’s Offices.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Richard K. Bridgeman.
