Minor Boating Incident Over Weekend in Stephens Co.

One person is recovering from a minor injury after a jet ski accident in Stephens County over the July fourth holiday weekend.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Officer Craig Fulghum said it happened on July 4 on Eastanollee Creek in Lake Hartwell.

According to Fulghum, two personal watercraft that were jumping wakes collided into each other.

“A juvenile was hurt, minor injuries,” said Fulghum. “They took him to St. Mary’s Hospital in Lavonia and treated him for a small laceration.”

That juvenile, Fulghum said, was released.

Fulghum said no charges were issued as a result of the incident.

He said it was a case of “wrong place at the wrong time.”

“It happens from time to time on busy boating weekends,” said Fulghum. “That is what we talk about when we talk about being defensive boaters. Be aware of your surroundings.”

He said that is especially important on busy weekends on the water.

Statewide, there were no boating related fatalities over the July 4 holiday weekend in Georgia.

The DNR said there were 18 total boating incidents and 40 arrests for Boating Under the Influence.

According to the DNR, 18 people were injured on Georgia waters over the holiday weekend.
