Missing Woman Found in Chestatee Wildlife Management Area

The remains of a Georgia woman last seen in Lavonia have been found.

36-year-old Tosha Herron’s remains were found in the Chestatee Wildlife Management Area off U.S. 129 in Lumpkin County late last week.

Authorities say Herron was found down an embankment near where her vehicle had gone off the road the night of October 11, 2016.

Family members said at the time, Herron, who was from Buford, GA, was on her way to Blue Ridge to meet her boyfriend but somehow ended up on I-85 northbound.

At one point, she contacted her friend when she got off the Interstate in Lavonia and it was believed she might have gone missing somewhere between Lavonia and Toccoa.

Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle said at the time, they had evidence her cellphone had pinged off towers near Lavonia, but he said authorities later tracked her phone to cell towers near Dicks Hill Parkway in Stephens County and later in the Cornelia area.

Several days after that, Herron’s vehicle was found down an embankment on Blood Mountain in Lumpkin County, but she was not found.

In mid-November, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the search for Herron and despite numerous tips, Herron was never found.

Then in December, her family offered a $10,000 for information leading to her whereabouts.

So far, authorities have not released a cause of death.
