Name Change Coming for Community Bank and Trust

An area bank is getting a name change.

South Carolina Bank and Trust announced earlier this week that its name will be changing to South State Bank.

In Stephens County, South Carolina Bank and Trust operates as Community Bank and Trust.

Community Bank and Trust, along with four other bank brands in three states, will all switch to the name “South State Bank” this summer.

South Carolina Bank and Trust officials said that once all bank divisions begin operating under one name and on one system later this summer, customers will be able to do their banking at any location throughout the three-state network.

SCBT CEO Robert R. Hill Jr. called it a great next step for the company.

Hill said the new name reflects the bank’s strength and stability, while also providing greater convenience and increased access for customers.

Customers will receive communication throughout the rebranding process as the bank prepares for the name change.

The change is set to officially happen on June 30.

South Carolina Bank and Trust took over Community Bank and Trust back in 2010 after the FDIC annouced that the Cornelia-based bank had failed.
