National Trails Day on Saturday

The U.S. Forest Service is marking National Trails Day on Saturday with events around the state, including in northeast Georgia.

On Saturday, the Forest Service said hundreds of volunteers and partners will work side by side on national forest trails across Georgia.

That includes the Panther Creek Trail.

This work day is open to all volunteers and U.S. Forest Service staff.

Work will include general maintenance like sling blading, brush trimming, and tree removal.

Volunteers should meet at the Panther Creek Trailhead at 9 a.m. and bring a sack lunch, water, boots, and leather gloves.

Also, long sleeves and long pants are recommended.

For more information on National Trails Day at Panther Creek, call the Chattooga River Ranger District at 706-754-6221.

Saturday marks the 24th annual National Trails Day.

Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests Supervisor Betty Jewett said it is really heartening to see the passion of trail users and witness the huge difference that people make in Georgia by keeping trails maintained and sustainable.
