NGTC President To Serve As Interim President at Athens Tech in Temporary Move

North Georgia Technical College President Dr. Gail Thaxton will be helping out a neighboring technical college in an interim role for a short time this summer.

Starting next month, Thaxton will act as Interim President at Athens Technical College while the search for a permanent replacement for retiring Dr. Flora Tydings is conducted.

The Technical College System of Georgia said that following the conclusion of the committee’s search for the new Athens Technical College president, Thaxton will resume her Presidency at North Georgia Technical College.

Officials said this process is expected to be completed within in a couple of months.

While Thaxton is filling in at Athens Tech, Dr. Mark Ivester will be Acting President for North Georgia Technical College.

Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Gretchen Corbin said that she has full confidence that both colleges will be in good hands as the system searches for the next leader of Athens Technical College.

Corbin said that Dr. Thaxton and Dr. Ivester will provide excellent guidance for the leadership in place at both colleges, and she appreciates their flexibility and willingness to assist during this time of transition.

She added that it is a testimony to the skills and talents in the system that it has such exceptional leaders willing to take on temporary assignments for the good of students across the state.

Meanwhile, Thaxton said she is grateful that Dr. Ivester has agreed to serve as Acting President at North Georgia Tech, adding that with him stepping up, the school will not miss a beat in its continued work to implement solid plans for student success.
