Nobody Hurt As Train Jumps Tracks in Stephens Co.

Authorities said nobody was hurt after a train derailment in Stephens County on Thursday.

It occurred on Thursday afternoon on tracks along Wolf Pit Road.

According to Stephens County Volunteer Fire Coordinator and Eastanollee Fire Chief Jamey Gettys, several cars of a train jumped the tracks along Wolf Pit between Turner Road and Eastanollee By-pass.

Gettys said the cars tipped over facing the woods and away from the road, so Wolf Pit Road and traffic in the area was not affected.

He said the cars were carrying grain, which did spill.

Gettys added that the railroad company was handling the cleanup Thursday afternoon.

There is no word at this time on why the cars derailed.
