One Dead; Another In Custody After Lavonia Shooting

Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigators, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and Lavonia Police are on the scene at the Pointe South Mobile Home Park on State Route 17 after a shooting there Sunday.

It happened Sunday evening, according to Franklin County Sheriff Stevie Thomas.

Thomas said Lavonia Police responded to a report of shots fired and found one man injured from a gunshot wound.

According to Thomas, the shooting involved two male subjects.

Thomas said the shooting victim was taken to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia where he died from his injuries. The suspected shooter was taken into custody.

The Sheriff said the two men knew each other, but it is not known yet whether the pair lived at the mobile home park.

Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigators have been working through the night on the shooting incident.

So far, the names of the victim and the shooter have not yet been released.

There is no word on what prompted the shooting.
