Only two more chances for local talent to compete in the Ritz Theatre’s Open Mic Monday.

The next chance to perform comes up next Monday, November 20th.  Open Mic Monday is designed to showcase local talent in the North Georgia region.

Ritz Theatre manager Keith Kozicki says the response so far has been much better than expected.

“It’s gone really well. We’ve had two strong months of competition in a variety of categories,” he said. “Ethan Phillips won September and two gentlemen DAniel Mack and Clint Coker won the October compeition. We were really impressed with their talent and their stage craft. It was a really strong showing.”

The show takes place the third Monday of the month through December at the Ritz on Doyle St.

And Kozicki says contestants are coming from all over North Georgia.

“We’ve had people come as far as an hour away. It’s amazing that this event is starting to take off,” Kozicki said.

Kozicki said they have had all kinds of performers from those reading poetry, to musicians, singers, and even dulcimer players.

Now once the four month competition ends, Kozicki says there will be a final competition in January.

“So we’re looking forward to the January final four competition where the winners will compete for the grand prize which is a paid gig at the Ida Cox Music series,” Kozicki said. “Again, the event is free and open to the public. It’s free to perform. You can sign up by sending an email to [email protected] or you can just show up and there’s a clipboard to sign and it’s first come, first served.”

Again, the next Open Mic Monday is next week on November 20th.

Performances begin at 7p.

Those interested in being contestants should show up early to get their name on the list.
