Progress Continues in Hospital Administrator Search

The search for the next Stephens County Hospital Administrator could be nearing a conclusion.

Stephens County Hospital Administrator Ed Gambrell said that the Hospital Authority Personnel Committee met on Monday.

No action was taken at that meeting.

However, Gambrell said that the search for his replacement is continuing to move forward.

“The Personnel Committee did meet to further review and refine the search for my replacement,” said Gambrell. “Everything is going well and I am hopeful in the next few weeks that we are able to name somebody.”

The hospital had received about 17 resumes prior to the application deadline at the end of February and the authority’s Personnel Committee had narrowed that down to about six candidates that it had planned to interview.

Gambrell said that it appears at this point that all interviews have been completed by the Personnel Committee.

The Stephens County Hospital Authority is searching for a replacement for Gambrell, who has announced that he is retiring at the end of this year after serving as Hospital Administrator for what will be more than 28 years.

Gambrell said that his retirement time frame can be adjusted based on when a new administrator comes on board.

“I gave the end of the calendar year as my retirement date, but I told the Authority that if we get somebody on board and they are getting oriented to the facility in a timely fashion, it is possible I could leave sooner,” said Gambrell. “I do not want to be in the way either, but officially right now we are looking at the end of the year still.”

Gambrell said he will help get the new administrator settled in prior to his retirement, but added that he does not think there would be any reason he would need to stay on past the end of December.
